help about twitter....?
why do some people put a "." (period) before certain tweets? what is the purpose of that? i heard that if you don't then only the person you tweet at can read it or something?
and since i've just had to ask how to use the internet i guess i'll go hang with my parents now... Ads |

It's a method to make sure, when you reply to someone's tweet, everyone on your followers list can see the tweet.

When you mention someone, only you and people who follow the person you mentioned can see the tweet on their timeline.
People put the period in front so everyone who follows them can see the tweet on their timeline. It doesn't have to be a period, it can be anything (symbol, letter, word, etc.) as long as the first part of the tweet isn't @______ then it will be seen. |
