Is it unusual for a man to care so much about his appearance?

A coworker usually sends pics of everything, including himself, to post on the company Twitter. Today, I took a picture of him while he was on the phone and posted it on the company Twitter of an employee being hard at work.

He then got mad at me, saying the picture was unflattering and made him look ugly, and I should have taken a bunch and let him choose which of the pics can go up. I really didn't think it mattered, since it wasn't like he blinked in the picture.

Is that weird or normal? He's 28 and married with a kid.

Does it matter? Women care so much about their appearance that they'll go out dressed half naked in the middle of winter just to feel good about their visual look. Thats seems more odd to me. EVen more odd that most people don't seem to take notive of this strange phenonomon.
