as of now sony hasn't talked about it

i remember hearing back in late November that the CD playback function was going to come in December

There are quite a few functions yet to be added (personally I'm waiting for the suspend/instant resume from stand-by mode to come along) but there is no current time-frame. Shuei Yoshida (@yosp on Twitter) sometimes replies to fans who ask him direct questions on Twitter, but not always, so you could try there, but he has previously said that the engineers are working on CD and MP3 playback, so have faith that it IS coming, it is just a case of when.
