Add personal message on facebook friend request?

Is there a way to add a personal message on a friend request on facebook? When i add someone i can only add him in lists but I can't add a message

I think FB reworked the Add Friend button for the worse and now you can't add a message to your request. I found 2 possible workaround for this but neither is perfect.

1. Instead of using the Add Friend button look for a text something like this on the person's profile: "<Person> only shares some information publicly. If you know <Person>, add her as a friend or send her a message." If you click "add him/her as a friend" a requesting window pops-up and you may add a message.

2. If you don't find a clickable link to add as friend, enter this in the URL field of your browser:
http://www.facebook.com/addfriend.php?id=[id]
Replace [id] with the friend-to-be's facebook id, without the brackets.

Even with these methods the 'Add a personal message' option may be not available with some persons.
