Do I need to download FACEBOOK APP to my iphone 4g in order to "check in" to places on facebook?

I just got my new iphone 4g and need help with facebook app.

First, i do not have the facebook app yet because it keeps asking me to buy it and put my credit card info on when its suppose to be 'free". Second, how do I check in to places on facebook? and tag people and stuff?

Yes you need the Facebook app. They only require a credit card to associate with your account in case you try to download a paid app.

When you get the app you'll see the check in button
