Your computer is infected.
Did you run a full-system manual scan with McAfee right after you installed it? McAfee cannot detect and remove existing virus and malware unless you specifically perform a manual scan with it. Quarantine whatever it finds. Good luck. |

These annoyances are not necessarily malicious. Browsers come with built-in looseness that advertising vultures take advantage of, unless you confine what it automatically 'fetches'.
Try "MalwareBytes" to start cleaning up your system: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ (free version has no "real-time" shield) Browser 'pop-up blockers' are lightweight, paper thin defenses and advertisers (legit & malware purveyors) know how to get by those very easily. Users must boost their own defenses these days. Get Firefox as your default browser & use it for everyday surfing; fall back to iE only for "last resort" viewing of substandard websites & Windows updates. The following tips help, but methods (vectors) constantly change. FIREFOX: Tools> Options> Privacy> top drop menu set to "Firefox will use custom settings..."> Check 'Accept Cookies from sites' ►Un-Check 'Accept 3rd Party cookies'. A good collection of effective add-on's (Official Mozilla) is here: https://addons.mozilla.org/collections/d...nbarpappy/ "AdBlock Plus" & "Better Privacy" also help defray rubbish. ►► At minimum, get the #1 item for malware prevention: NoScript, which constrains automagically fetching & deployment of tainted assets. [see this page for how it works, and how to use it...very simple; http://noscript.net/features#contentblocking CHROME> wrench icon> Preferences> Under the hood> Content settings> Cookies (heading): tick "Allow local data..." & "Ignore exceptions and block 3rd party..."> close tab. AdBlock plus available. See Add-on's for Chrome. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search?q=ad+block "NotScript" performs well also, but is a bit of a bugger to configure. http://www.ghacks.net/2010/08/18/notscri...le-chrome/ INTERNET EXPLORER does not handle 3rd party assets very well (or anything else) and won't give nearly the control as Firefox or Chrome: it is garbage. Use at your own risk. And, get this installed: ►"HOSTS file" (from mvps.org) which blocks evil webpage assets from re-directs which install malware or trashware. (Vista requires special instructions; on-page link) http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm SpywareBlaster (snoopware prevention and hostfile guardian); http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html |
