How to hide profile on facebook?

I've had friends "delete" their profile from facebook but after a period of time they were able to log back on with all of their friends and information in tact. It's not a matter of blocking that I'm aware of. Any ideas? I'm trying to take a hiatus.

All you have to do is deactivate your facebook account. It doesn't delete any of your stuff, just 'hides' your name and profile from the website until you want to reactivate it.

Once you want to start using it again you just have to log in and everything on your account will be restored and look like it did when you deactivated it.

Hide it from others or yourself ?

From others just go in to settings and change privacy settings.

From yourself maybe change the password to some long number like 624857612084765874260784561279657683556482 and write it in a notebook and leave it in like your attic... then to go online you'll have to go in to your attic and find the notebook and enter a massive code, and hopefully your to lazy to go to all that bother. And if you go with that idea remember mice might try eat the notebook so put it in a metal box.
