How do i make my profile private on facebook?

Ok i recently just made a facebook. I dont have timeline yet but i want to get it. Well i want my profile provate to where like people that arent my friends cant read my wall see photos are anything. I tried pressing friends and custom. Well i pressed view how other people see me that aren't my friend and it shows my wall post photos intrest etc. I don't want that. i even went on a facebook that i'm not friends with and it shows everything. How do i make this private?

I don't know how to make your Facebook private on the old Facebook profile, but I do on the Timeline. Go to the following link: https://www.facebook.com/about/timeline
There should be a green button that says Get Timeline or something, just look for it.

How to change your profile to only friends viewable:
1. At the top blue bar of your Facebook Page, where it says your name, Find Friends, and Home, click on the upside down triangle.
2. Click Privacy Settings.
3. Click Under Timeline and tagging, Edit Settings
4. From there, read the following titles, and change them by either clicking on Custom, Friends of Friends, but in your case pick Friends.
5. When you're done, Click Done.

To look at how strangers see your profile:
1.Go to your Timeline.
2. Right where it says your name, look to the right where it says Update Info, Activity Log, and the Gear picture.
3.Click on the gear and then click on View As...
