You can use a photo or a Yahoo! cartoon avatar, and if you have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can also use those avatars.

Go to: http://profile.yahoo.com/y/settings/privacy/ - make sure your profile isn't hidden, because if it is, your avatar won't show.

If you want a cartoon avatar, go here to create one: http://avatars.yahoo.com/ - then click on "Yahoo!" under "Export your Avatar".

In case you want to use a Facebook or Twitter avatar, you need to link those accounts in the Profile options.
http://profile.yahoo.com/y/settings/linked-accounts/

You have several options in case you want a photo avatar:
a) go to your Yahoo! Answers settings at http://answers.yahoo.com/my-activity/edit/about , click "Update photo or avatar",
b) go to your Yahoo! Profile at http://profile.yahoo.com/ , click on the current avatar.
Now upload a picture or choose one of the pics you've uploaded previously.

Note: if you are on a mobile, you need to switch to desktop mode first in order for this to work.

Well, the avatar page hasn't worked for months. This is how I changed mine. I got a new avatar image on the avatar home page; saved it; also saved it in favorites. Then I went to the "home" tab on that same page, and at the bottom right was a box that said I could "embed" the image. I did that and then I could save it to "my pictures". After that I went to my profile page and after clicking on my image, under that it said "change Picture". By clicking on that it allowed me to "upload" picture which I did from my pictures. That worked for me - hope it works for you...Pat
