How to deal with groups of friends or people who turn their back on you as an adult?
I am a senior in college. I thought I made lifelong friendships but that was not the case. This group includes about 10 people. One of the girls from the group was a RA. Someone told on her that she had been drinking with minors and now her job is on the line. Me and that girl never got along but we kept our distance from each other. All of a sudden my name is being brought up in her situation. People think that I told on her. I have nothing to do with that situation AT ALL! I noticed my friends who are also friends with her stopped inviting me to events, started being extremely distant, and posting comments on social media but no one ever came directly to me to talk about it. At this point I am trying to decide if I even want to mend relationships with people who take rumors as fact or if I should clear my name. This is a very stressful situation but a part of me does not want to start over with new friends my last semester. What do yall think? Any advice would help me out a ton!!

This happens - but my best advice would be to go to her and tell her that YOU didn't blow the whistle - and you suspect that whoever is spreading the rumor is the one who actually did it.

If they don't believe it, then you will have to start over. On the bright side - and there is one - if people believed lies without ever even asking YOU, then they were not very good friends to begin with and may not be worth the bother.
