How to start a good YouTube musical channel?

I'm 16 a guy and I play guitar and sing.. I also write songs now and then.. I want to start a YouTube channel playing music..I like john Mayer the civil wars Ben Howard Bon over Mumford and sons etc..
How can I start a successful YouTube channel? What do I need? I can't really advertisement Facebook as none of my friends know I play.. And I'd rather keep it that way.. (Not common where I'm from)
How can I go about getting my channel out there?
Any tips for starting a channel?
Also do you think I'm any good? I'll include a soundcloud

Simple.

1. Make a Twitter, Twitter really helps as people tend to RT a lot.
2. Make your channel & customize it. ( Banners, Pictures )
3. Make your videos HD, That way people won't complain about quality and rather enjoy the video
4. Make sure your purpose is clear. Don't make 1 video that is a tutorial and the next a song promo etc
5. Stick to one type of channel, If your a musician, Keep it like that, Keep uploading weekly if possible
6. Local newspapers sometimes have little space for YouTube advert's but that isn't too popular
