People use it for instagram mostly. Like if it was a picture of starbucks they would probably say #starbucks #whitegirl #coffee #love #tagsforlikes and all these stupid things. You might hear people say hashtag yolo and stuff.

The hash tag is really a number sign on the computer key board that tells the reader that the sentence or message is important. If it is at the beginning and ending of a message, it is more important. Good luck.
