What is the best way to start talking to a girl if you are very shy?

I asked a couple of days ago about this girl who stares at me and everyone agreed that she seems to like me. So I thought, why not just talk to her then, and maybe to try and break the ice a little before talking, smile next time our eyes meet. Only problem is I am very shy, and I have been trying to do the smile thing for a while now, but always look away too quickly when our eyes do meet. How do I get over the shyness and just smile when our eyes meet and talk to her?

Any advice would be great.

Go to a random school/college/university and pratice talking to strangers...or just walk up to her and say wtf are you staring at?

Just go and ask her a book, pen.... Become a frnd.....
