Well, it depends what kind of tacos you're looking for.

For beef tacos, the consensus for best tacos in LA are Tito's Tacos: 11222 Washington Place, Culver City. They have shredded beef, lettuce, and cheese. BIG!

For fish tacos, I used to settle for Wahoo's or Rubio's. But the best, by far, is Taco Nazo. The first time I had one of their tacos, I was instantly taken back to the first time I had real fish tacos in Baja. It's that good. Saves you driving 200-300 miles to get an authentic Baja fish taco. There are a number of locations, listed on page 2 of their menu: http://www.taconazo.com/taconazo%20menu.pdf. The fish tacos have batter fried fish, cabbage, and "crema", which is almost like ranch dressing. Try the shrimp tacos, too!

Most have a variety of tacos, except Tito's has beef with cheese or beef without cheese.

Where can't you get tacos in LA?

Really, there's not a lot of variation: tortilla, beef or chicken, lettuce or cabbage, salsa. Fish tacos are the best.

Consider one of the chains, Rubio's, Baja Fresh, Poquito Mas, Sharkey's.

Salud.

Right now you can get the best tacos in LA at Abbot Kinney in Venice, but to know where to go when you are craving one, you'll have to look on Twitter for Kogi's current location. The current craze in LA is Kogi, a Korean Taco truck that has a massive following because their creative, crazy-sounding flavor combinations like spicy kimchi tofu tacos are really, really, realllllllllllly good. Their most popular taco is filled with Korean Short Ribs, but I'm a vegan, so I've never tried it. People are totally addicted them, though, and willing to follow the truck around the city.

They also serve the menu at the Alibi Room in Culver City, but it's 21+.

I also love Pink Taco in Century City, which has a really cool vibe and yummy food.

Some people are obsessed with Tito's in Culver City, but it's greasy and you stand in a long line in a totally bleh area just to get one.

If you just want a traditional taco in a no-frills place where you don't have to stand outside, I'd go to Paco's Tacos on Centinela.

But you should really try Kogi's. I mean, you can find excellent tacos almost anywhere, but only in LA can you get a Korean-Mexican fusion taco.
