What do you call a person who always achieves what he wants without....?

Hey, I know a guy (ex friend now) who always achieves what he wants without even using physical contact, always staying calm and he can achieve his goal without anyone else realizing he did it?

When I am talking to my friends about him I want to call him an asshole but I am not sure if that's the word, really pissed off at him - what he did to me is:

There was a group of friends of us (guys and girls) and there was one girl which he liked, and I liked her too, I knew he's after her, but I tried to get with her too, I told him that shes taken by me and to back off, I even tried to scare him and offered him to have a real life race (even though I dont have car or license, he does), even then he agreed, I told him that my friend will go against him racing after which he said things which made me embarrassed over all facebook (this conversation was in status comments), then when he wasnt around that girl once, I tried to kiss her (and succeeded) but she cried then and slapped me, after long talk she said that me and her are staying friends..

Anyway that guy found out about this and I don't know what he did but no body is talking to me anymore. I am only one of the stories, there is lots of others where that guy (ex friend) ruins peoples life's just to achieve what he wants, and the most funny thing is: He's always calm, he seems like hes on drugs or something, always calm no matter what, even when he was getting fined by police once, and he never used physical strength (fight) to solve conflict, he always does it through talking, organizing and provoking people and then taking advantage of that. He ended up dating that girl and being together with her, apparently hes very popular across all friends now because turns out hes "very romantic" to girl, he always picks neutral side in conflicts, but he can affect and bend the events so it comes out into his favour and nobody will even notice that.

He's only 20, he nearly finished some kind of high degree college, but to me it sounds like hes just a typical asshole whos walking on broken souls and cares only about himself, yet he's still very popular among friends and nobody complains about him.

I don't know, it makes me hurt, I kind of feel like some kind of person is being able to control my life and events in it.

What do you call people like him? an asshole but is there any other word?
