How do I put an icon where the avatar appears?

I have copied an icon off images but have had the devil's own time trying to
paste it into the avatar box, How do I do this, thanks.
Thank you echinopsis and Jimmy, as you can see from my new icon, I was
successful this time, sorry Jimmy but best answer goes to echinopsis, had
I followed through fully on his instructions the first time round, then there
would have been no need for another answer.

You can use a photo or a Yahoo! cartoon avatar, and if you have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can also use those avatars.

Go to: http://profile.yahoo.com/y/settings/privacy/ - make sure your profile isn't hidden, because if it is, your avatar won't show.

If you want a cartoon avatar, go here to create one: http://avatars.yahoo.com/ - then click on "Yahoo!" under "Export your Avatar".

In case you want to use a Facebook or Twitter avatar, you need to link those accounts in the Profile options.

You have several options in case you want a photo avatar:
a) go to your Yahoo! Answers settings at http://answers.yahoo.com/my-activity/edit/about , click "Update photo or avatar",
b) go to your Yahoo! Profile at http://profile.yahoo.com/ , click on the current avatar.
Now upload a picture or choose one of the pics you've uploaded previously.

Note: if you are on a mobile, you need to switch to desktop mode first in order for this to work.

At this time you can not make a avatar or upload a picture from a mobile device, perhaps that will change in the future.
For now profile changes must be made from a computer.
Go here , http://profile.yahoo.com top center put the arrow on your avatar or !, click change picture.
From there you can upload a Picture from your computer or import a picture from facebook. When finished click submit on the next page.

If you want a custom avatar go to one of these sites and make a custom avatar, save it to your computer and upload it as a picture.
