Could social media cause stress or worsen stress?

If you have lost your job or over looked for a position at first the support you get from social media can be comforting, but daily log ins of either true or false lives living it up magnifies your short comings. Yes you feel happy for those who are successful, but what about you, why aren't you at that level no matter how hard you try? Is it best to clean house before trying to log on?
