I'm so confused about going into college. Help?
Thing is, I have now come of age to actually apply and attend a college (think of a college that is affordable for a lowish medium income family, not Harvard) and I know what I want to be in life, but I don't know if it's what is the smart thing to do. I want to major in the Education and Social Studies fields because I want to eventually find myself as a high school Social Studies teacher. I just want to know if that specific field would be enough to support myself and a small family.

Any thoughts?
I live in Alaska. I will most likely go to a college called UAF.

Go see a college counselor and tell them exactly what you want to be. If they can do their job right, they will steer you toward that goal.

See information at link below. You may be able to increase your income by also serving as a coach and by getting good summer jobs.

Where do you live? For a medium income family, your best choice is likely a state school (University of Florida, or California State University at Fresno, etc). They're going to be least expensive. Most schools are 5 years for teaching (4 +1 student teaching).

Don't buy the bull that teachers don't make any money. Their starting salary for 9 months of work is almost $40k is my state. That's plenty to support a family on; comfortable, but not rich.

Depending upon your state, consider a junior college for the first two years to take care of your general ed. Most will have a direct transfer agreement with a university that offers secondary education. You'll want to make certain to take classes that will count toward the education degree.

If you add your state, we can give you more specific information.
