Why can't I add someone on Facebook?

So there's this person I want to add on Facebook but when I go on their wall it only gives me the option to message them. I don't want to be a creep and message them saying add me so if there is any other way I can make it give me that option that'd be great. Please help me out! I'll take all the answers I can get! Thank you

it's called privacy. they have elected to not allow strangers to add them.

Some people have it where you have to be friends of their friends to add them.

that person has their settings set up so that you have to have at least one friend in common with them in order to send them a request

The person you're trying to add allows only friends of his friends to add them, and since you don't have mutual friends so you can't add them.
Here is a trick! Try to add one of his friends and when they accept your request you can add them then.
