What should be my next step to get into marketing?

I am a 25 year old writer who has never landed my first entry level marketing job. This is despite having a 9 month editorial internship at a reputable 4 magazine media office AND a large company where I was a marketing/social media intern.

I have been on 2nd interviews and did great. I get an interview maybe once every 2-3 months. My last one I would have landed a marketing assistant position but I lost out to someone who also knew graphic design. They said I was a top notch writer and had all the admirable qualities they were looking for.

But during these interviews and application waiting periods, it has been a year since my last interview. I still write freelance. But what the heck should I do in the meantime? I work a blue collar job to pay the bills but how do I keep getting experience? Another internship?
