A guy told me he loves me but I don't love him back?

I met this guy on Facebook. He had sent me the friend request a year or so back. He said he took same classes as me in the previous year at uni. We have some common friends so I know he was in the uni and not some creep.

We have never met in person but we talk everyday on facebook. We share a lot of interests like politics, sports, video gaming et cetera. He yesterday out of the blue said that he loves me. I didn't know what to say so I've not replied to his message yet. I don't want to hurt him but not sure how to tell him subtly.

Help?

Don't reply. He'll understand that you don't love him.

"I'm sorry. I just don't feel that way about you. I hope we can still be Facebook friends, but if you need some time, I understand."

Don't be subtle. Subtle gives him room to hope, and to feel like he's been misled when you finally tell him the truth. This at least lets him know where he stands so he can move on. And if he proves bad at that, then stop worrying about not hurting his feelings and block him.
