Teens - What are the biggest "misconceptions" regarding relationship breakups?
I have seen a lot of quotes on Facebook recently highlighting the differences between what boys and girls go through during a breakup. The quote was basically trying to imply that the guy in the relationship will not care about the breakup at first, but at some unspecified time in the future he will suddenly become saddened by it. On the contrary, the quote was also trying to imply that girls become sad after a breakup but then become totally fine later on.

I am just wondering if any of you folks out there think that the facebook quote speaking any truth to reality. What misconceptions do many people have about breakups?

I know exactly what you're talking about. Those posts are frankly, bullcrap written by heartbroken girls that got dumped by a crappy guy. First off, lumping an entire group or gender together and saying they're all going to have the same experiences or feelings is never going to be accurate. Every person is going to handle a breakup differently.

A few misconceptions could be
-The couple that broke up are always going to be bitter and mad at each other. This could be true if it was an especially bad relationship or breakup, I certainly have an ex I will never forgive. But there are many occasions when these two people can be on at least speaking terms with each other. Sometimes they can even be friends afterwords, but that doesn't usually happen.

-Guys don't care or can move on two seconds after a breakup/rejection. I have known guys that were absolutely CRUSHED after they went through a breakup or were shot down by a girl. Guys aren't made of stone and they aren't heartless. Girls, frankly, need to get off their high horses when it comes to this. Guys are allowed to cry and be upset.

That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure there are more.
