no facebook notifications gets me down?

i've had facebook for about a year now, and im 18. i never had too many close friends until about 7 months ago when i met peoplei really had stuff in common with, but they wernt in my school. through them i've met othere people, as you do and the whole friend situation is better than its ever been. but recently i've been getting a bit more addicted to facebook i suppose. if im on the computer doing work i always check my account to see if i have any notifications. when i log on and dont have any i get quite down. when i see my friend's pictures of them doing stuff with other people i get depressed because i feel as though im too boring for them or something.
even when im not on the computer i go on fb on my phone to check, i actually think i depend on it now, i dont want to deactivate my account, but is this normal?

Most of the time, online friends aren't reliable.

1 real friend is better that 1000 online friends so if you have one real friend dont worry about what everyone else is doing on facebook
