what do you talk to do your friends about? What can I talk to my friends about online?

I never start conversations with my friends via text or facebook, (neither to they talk to me), I feel this is why I might be left out of doing things my friends.
I would love to talk to them but I never have anything interesting to talk about?!
What would some topics be that I could talk about so the conversation doesn't die?
