Is it weird to join instagram after it's been out so long?

I have a weird thing about social media... it makes me nervous for some reason. I like it in general but I always get worried that if I don't get a lot of likes, followers, friends, etc people will think I don
t have a lot of friends or something.
What happened was that I got facebook towards the end of sixth but it was hacked in seventh so I deleted it. I got another one in the beginning of ninth grade and I didn't like it very much because everyone had so many friends and I had like thirty! After a while I got some requests more people accepted etc and I liked it. But last couple months nobody has been on so I want a different one.
I didn't want a twitter because it just seemed stupid. None of my friends have one because at my school only the annoying popular kids use it. I want an instagram but I'm not sure. Im scared its too late and if I follow people they'll think its weird that I joined so late. And maybe it's dying down like facebook.... but I really wanna connect with friends! Also I want to know how long it takes for people to follow back and how long it takes for the average person to get maybe 100 followers?
By the way I have no idea why this in military I didn't check when it asked if this was the right category so sorry!

Your posting this question in a section filled with grown men and women who carry rifles and fight for their country, getting 100 followers on instagram or being well liked is the last thing we care about.
