What are some other websites besides Facebook and Twitter to make friends?
I was hoping to find a website where I can meet fellow ladies (I'm straight, btw) just so I could maybe have someone to hang out with and go shopping with, etc. Facebook and Twitter are obviously for people you already know in life, so I'm looking for a website that's free and not spammy/ a scam. I tried girlfriendsocial but to no avail. I'm kinda lonely and I don't really have time / know where to go out and meet people in person. I mean, pretty much everyone my age (I'm a college student) already is set in life in the friends area, so it's like if you don't have that many, "too bad, so sad." Any help would be appreciated!! (:

I wouldn't suggest any on-line group to "make friends". You say you're a college student, so you should start talking to females in your classes. You can also meet people in the library or the gym (introduce yourself and start talking to the female walking the treadmill next to you).

As someone at your school if there are any recreational sports programs that you could join, or even yoga classes. Some colleges offer these things for free to students. Another idea would be to ask about any Rec Department activities in the city your college is in (every city/town has a Rec Department).

You can also meet people in bookstores, grocery stores, or just walking around the mall. You just need to see who else looks like they can use someone to talk to and start a conversation.

Look for meetup.com groups near you. When I moved to Denmark and don't know anyone or speak the language I found a meetup group for expats and another English speaking wine tasting group
