Why am I getting so many Arabic followers on Twitter?

All I did was post something with the hashtag "#Syria" and I am getting dozens of Arabic no particular reason. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before? This is very weird. https://twitter.com/Politipinion/followers

this is a guess
since you have "following" more than "followers", everyone assumed that you'd follow back anyone who'd follow you, most of those Arabic followers are actually "group" accounts that'd post tweets for entertainment and some are groups for (increasing followers) or advertisement, so it's not just you .. they would follow anyone and everyone in order to increase the number of their following/followers
how did they find you? that #Syria hashtag was enough
