Follow requests occur when your Twitter account and tweets are "protected". Having a protected Twitter account allows more privacy, as your tweets can only be seen by people you approve of - hence the follow requests.
To make your account public and stop the follow requests, follow these steps:
1) Go to twitter.com
2) Login if you have not already
3) Click the little settings icon on the top bar next to the compose icon and search box
4) Select 'Settings'
5) Scroll down to the section 'Tweet Privacy' and uncheck the box 'Protect My Tweets'
6) Save changes at the bottom of the page
7) Done - your profile should now be public and you should stop getting follow requests.
