They are one and the same. It's just the 'Apple' that wants to name their products differently at all the times.
Their tag line says "Think Different". Ads |

A laptop has a dedicated keyboard separate from the screen a conventional hard drive and an operating system usually run on windows with options for further connectivity - USB VGA HDMI etc.
A tablet is like a single slate with a combined display and onscreen keyboard, a small solid state hard drive and less connectivity options Tablets tend to run on 2 types of operating system Apple and Android although Microsoft is releasing some tablets as well. Laptops are almost exclusively Microsoft although Apple have the Macbook. Battery life tends to be greater with tablets typically 8-10hrs whereas a laptop is usually no more than 4 hours. Tablets are mainly operated through a touch screen directly on the display, whereas laptops mainly use conventional windows OS with mouse or touchpad. Finally tablets tend to be used mainly for "view/listen only" applications such as youtube, music social networking etc, they are not designed for creative work such as writing, design whereas laptops with conventional hardware can. iPads are simply tablets marketed by Apple with their own operating (IOS) system For general use such as homework essays research laptops are generally preferred over tablets HTH David |
