Could she have lost interest so fast or were we just friends? what to do next?

Well It's a long story but I'll try to keep it short!

I met a girl on a plane, we just chatted a while and joked around... as it turns out she was on her way to Europe for a 3rd and final year abroad. Now she gave me her name and we talked on and off on Facebook until it got to a point after a month that we were talking nearly every day for hours, until one of us falls asleep. Lately she volunteered her number and we moved to texting by her request.

During these conversation, , although neither of us ever stated it out right, I think I made it pretty clear I extremely like her, not to mention I got her a really romantic birthday gift. She also constantly "made plans" for stuff we would do together when she got back. She complements me all the time, laughs at all my stupid jokes and all the usual crap which guys think means interest and in reality - who knows.

so please tell me, is this the friend zone? is it even remotely possible she doesn't understand I'm into her? would she talk to me SO much if she weren't interested herself? She always told me I'm very interesting to talk to... is that all she wanted?

2nd question is a bigger problem... for 2 weeks or so now(holidays) it seemed like she's avoiding me a little, always out with friends and stuff(which made sense at the time) but yesterday when I texted her she casually replied with "hey!! sorry I'm on a date, we'll talk some other time"

Now I realize it's crazy to think she'd "wait" until she got back... except that's exactly what I expected I guess. Also We talked about me visiting her...

I really really liked her up to this point.

Am I just unrealistic?
Should I ask her if she ever was interested?
Should I tell her I think it's weird she's dating other guys?
Should I just lay off until she gets back and see what's what without talking to her about it?
Did she invent this date to make me jealous or to cut me out?

I'm in a similar situation. I think she wouldn't be talking to you if she didn't like you. Sure she could see you as a friend right now but if she had no intentions on becoming anything more than friends she probably wouldn't have kept talking to you for this long. I think you have a shot at dating her when she comes back. definitely don't confront her on the date she went on. It's hard to say if she told you just to make you jealous but I don't think you should ask her about it because it might make her uncomfortable. Just keep talking to her and maybe drop a few more hints about meeting up when she gets back and see how it goes from there. I definitely think you have a shot with her though. Good luck.
