What determines the order of my friends that show on my profile page in Facebook?

It seems like there is a pattern to which friends show up on my profile most often, even though there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason. I know I didn't set it up that way, but one or two of my friends seems to always be in one of the "top friends" on my page, even though there isn't a top friends on facebook that i know of. Is it just random?

it's not that i WANT a top friends. i actually kind of like that about facebook (that it's random).

it just seems like there is a pattern so i am curious about what causes it.

You can create a top friends on facebook, otherwise the new facebook has some weird ways of randomizing friends.

Am not sure before I had my college network so it showed people from the network which where only 5 back then now with the new one I was tired seeing people I barely know. So I set them to only to my top 6 friends there are different kinds, top 6,9,12 just click on the pencil icon on the box and type people names.
I only know that news feeds shows up more on certain people. If those are the people you visit there profile the most or they do, perhaps that the case with the friends list as well =)
