Are Christians being played by A&E's marketing department?
It's like the Miley Cyrus controversy all over again.

Step 1: Piss off Christians
Step 2: They give you tons and tons of free advertisement, vomiting stuff about Duck Dynasty (or in the past, Miley Cyrus) all over facebook, Fox News, etc.
Step 3: The Christians create a brand new market for the show that never existed before (due to all the free advertising they gave them that hauled in the curious non-watchers) and they go back to watching Duck Dynasty anyway)
Step 4: Bring back Phil so the boycotting stragglers think they "won" (despite merely playing into the marketing department's hands) and now you have three times as many viewers as before.
@Dolly Llama
Hate to break it to you, but Gabby's Little Angel is probably right. It's working across the board.
However, Christians are the ones flooding my facebook about this, and Christians are probably the ones flooding yours.

I can't imagine any black Baptists thinking white Christian rednecks represent their views or beliefs

If you had not addressed your question to Christians, but to the general population, or to Christian-haters, I would say yes.

I can not imagine A&E targeting Christians unless they had something a little more Christian to sell. They certainly are not going to gain any new Christian viewers with this game.

I don't think so, in fact it seems more like the GLAAD people were played on this one since A&E claims to have suspended Phil to placate their demands but all but one episode is already in the can for season 5 and Phil appears in every single one of them!

Additionally, A&E knows full well what Phil and each of the Robertson's have always believed and you can find the same quotes listed directly on their web site dating back to 2009, so any claims they are offering now are simply dishonest to placate GLAAD and appear to be contrite when in fact they don't care about anything but the millions they have raked in from this show.

All GLAAD has done is give Phil a broader platform and a louder mic from which to speak...a failed tactic if you ask me, since ignoring him would have kept those in the know to the limited audience who follows him and/or reads GQ. They're not a terribly intelligent group since even their "boycott" of Chick-Fil-A backfired and generated more profit on that day for the company than they made all year long....again, all their screaming amounts to sabotage of their own interest really and makes them look like whiners who seek to silence any and everyone who doesn't agree with them...hardly respectable behavior. Even now, to claim any "victory" over Phil's suspension is such a joke since, as already mentioned, he's in 99.9% of the new season anyway so this "suspension" amounts to a coffee break. And at the end of all of it, A&E needs the Robertson's far more than any of the Robertson's need A&E, being multimillionaires long before this little reality show materialized.

IMO, it's pretty revealing how people want to make this all so personal and choose a "side" to be on when all the man did was answer a question asked directly to him about what is sin and never actually pulled out a single group included in the list he quoted from the Bible, which, whether you agree or not, is his protected rights to follow and speak freely about. The one who saw an opportunity to make headlines and single out homosexuals is the person who conducted the interview and jumped on one word in an 11 item list, which also is quite revealing!

ETA: wrong cupcake, I'm not a looser on FB. But "live and let live" cannot be a one-way only mantra, making GLAAD hypocrites and haters...you simply cannot legislate what people think no matter what is made legal or illegal and that's proved by looking at the abortion issue, so they are quite ignorant to maintain that just because States are granting them marriage that somehow this means society MUST be accepting...they confuse tolerance for acceptance and are foolish to poke that bear....my gay friends understand that, but they agree that one special interest group doesn't speak for them as individuals -- too bad not everyone is as intelligent.

The typical viewer of Duck Dynasty is an older, conservative, evangelical. They have, by indefinitely suspending Phil, upset their biggest fan base and thus probably shot themselves in the foot in the process unless they some how can get him to apologize (which I doubt). I applaud A and E for doing what is right and for not just feeding into what their fans probably want.

Yes they could be. Either way, they did what was right.

@ Gabby: Roughly 75% of the American population is christian. Why in the world wouldn't they target christians for marketing??? Duh. They will gain christian viewers *if* they bring the old bigot back after all. Notice he was "suspended" and not just fired outright.

A&E did not start it. Glaad started it. I saw the people on Saturday night live making fun of Jews and bad mouthing Jesus, Snoopy, Charlie brown...no one was spared. Are the Christians going to call and complain to the network about it? Nope. No biggie. Glaad is making a mountain out of a molehill they need to take a midol or treat themselves to a box of chocolates or perhaps a bubble bath. What ever it takes to get over it.

It's a well known fact that I'm not Christian. I respect most Christians, especially when they figure this kinda stuff out for themselves. This Christian blogger tells it just right. http://www.revangelicalblog.com/blog1/20...on-us.html
Well said.
