Why do people deactivate and then reactivate their Facebook?

I see a bunch of people who deactivate their accounts only to reactivate it a few weeks later. Why can't they just simply not log in if they don't plan on permanently deactivating it? Are they just trying to get attention by making people wonder why they disappeared?
