Does he like me? Should I give up on him? What should I do?

There's this guy that I have liked for about a year and last year, 2nd semester, I sat next to him in 2 of my classes. I've known him since 4th grade but I haven't had any classes with him since then and he is a popular and sporty guy (quarterback on football team, baseball pitcher) and he's really cute and super sweet so at first, I tried to convince myself not to like him since I felt like he was too good for me, but I couldn't help but like him as the semester continued on. In math, we only sat next to each other for a few weeks but in French, we were French partners since we sat next to each other and he was very nice from day 1 and we ended up sitting next to each other the entire semester. He would always stare at me, he would always lean over and whisper jokes in my ear and make me laugh when we were supposed to be quiet, he would make jokes about little things like our flash cars and stuff, he always moved his chair as close as he could to me, he would always brag about himself (jokingly of course), and certain things made me think he could have liked me but I thought maybe that's just how his personality was maybe. One day however, when we were learning demands, we had an activity and for one of the examples, he skipped the first one and went to the one that demanded embrasse-moi which means kiss me (of course for the activity I had to respond with the negative though and say don't kiss me). Either way, little things like that made me think he could possibly like me and like he put effort into my interests like he asked me about ballet since I'm a dancer and stuff and honestly tried to learn about it. I was always convincing myself that he couldn't like me since he's too good for me and there wasn't any way he could like me since he is one of the cutest guys in my grade. I'm also a kind of reserved person until I get to know people and it's hard for me to open up to others so I never really showed that I liked him besides laughing at his jokes and shyly smiling and looking away when I caught him staring at me. One day, I think he could have maybe almost asked me out when he walked into class, came straight too me and said "Guess what?! This is the 1st weekend this year that I don't have any sports or anything going on!" and of course I was oblivious and responded with "Lucky! I'm out of dance on an injury and I still have to go and watch my dance classes". So that's that but I didn't get to talk to him after that semester and he wasn't there for the final days because of a baseball thing in Florida so I haven't had a chance to talk to him since we haven't had any classes together this year. We have lunch together and he still stares at me a lot but is always with his friends and doesn't come and talk to me. I still really like him and he is so attractive and has such a great personality but I don't know if he really did like me at some point or if he still does or if I'm too late?! His parking space is near mine at school too so we see each other all the time but never talk! I don't know what to say to him. A little while ago I left a note on the windshield of his car just with my phone number and small message (my friend suggested it) and it had clues that it was from me but I didn't sign it with my name. Also it could have blown away, maybe he didn't figure out who it was from, or maybe he ignored it; all I know is I haven't heard back. Also one of my school friends is friends with him but I lost her phone number and no longer have classes with her so she doesn't know I like him and I haven't talked to her lately. Also he doesn't use social media even though he has a Facebook. Oh and he asked a sophomore to homecoming and took her but they never dated or anything and he hasn't dated anyone that I've known of for over 1.5 years. Also, I just found out I'm moving in a month so I really want to get asked to our prom since I'm a junior and I'd love to come back to our school for prom and go with all of my friends but I would need to be asked by a guy at my school since I will be going to a different school. At this point I would be willing to do something pretty courageous if needed since I won't see a lot of people from my school after I move. More than anything, I just want to know how he feels or felt about me and my goal is to at least have a conversation with him before I leave. I just don't want to leave regretting that I didn't try everything possible. Any advice helps, thanks so much!!!! Sorry this was so long.
