Social Media helping us to communicate or just creating noise?

I'm working on a project about how we communicate on social media and how it might over take talking face to face. I'm just asking if anyone has any opinions on the subject or notice this in action like in a restaurant people on phones looking at Facebook, people on the bus looking at social media sites etc.

Social Media has it's positive sides , but people should know where and when.
When you're in company, you shouldn't be busy looking at Facebook or other sites all the time.

No it's not creating noise but it's a way to communicate various people through some networking websites. Even you can share your views globally through social network sites.. But all is depend how you use it..
If you use it in a positive manner it has positive effects, but if you use it in a bad manner then deinitely it has bad impacts too...
