Public relations vs Marketing?
So I'm in year 12 this year, and am trying to find out some of the advantageous differences between public relations and marketing, (probably studying at RMIT university).

Do you take a course in one of these studies? Do you enjoy it? What do you enjoy about it?
Which do you think is more enjoyable and interesting, public relations or marketing?

Thankss

I used to be at RMIT, though I was a film writing major back then. Now I'm doing a PR minor to complement my Communication (Writing) program. It all depends on your interest. PR is more on building relationships between a company and the public, so basically it's more on the promotions side. If you enjoy public speaking and writing, this is for you. You'll be doing speeches and presentations, writing brochures/press releases, develop radio campaigns and interact with lots of people.

Marketing is all about selling products & services, and its main aim is to gain revenue, of course. It's very much focused on profits. I never really took a marketing class but if you're great with numbers and would like to develop strong marketing skills, this is right up your alley.

I'm enjoying my PR classes since they help me sharpen my promotional abilities and allow me to use popular social networking sites like Facebook (as well as blogs) to do creative promotions.

Hope you'll be able to get something out of this. All the best with the decision! Smile
