I don't think it is 'corrupting', no.

I have, of course, heard the stories about the bullying that can occur among teenagers using social media sites, which isn't good.

I'm older (49) and just use those sites (or site, Facebook) to keep in contact with a few high-school friends and previous co-workers. I've also become internet friends with about 30 or so people scattered around the world, and it's very interesting to chat with and interact with them and see/hear the different cultural aspects. I actually just purchased a framed artwork from an internet friend who lives in Athens, Greece. (I'm in the USA and have never met her in person, nor am I likely to ever meet her in person.) I don't think that qualifies as her 'corrupting' me. (lol) (although from what I gather, the 'government' in Greece is quite corrupt at the current time).
