why cant i receive notifications on facebook?

well, when i post something on a friends wall i don't get a notification when they reply or liked my post. but when i post something on my own wall, i receive notifications when they liked my post or commented on my wall post. did i change something in the settings? if i did? how to do i fix it? or did i do something wrong? help pleasee

i really think thats how facebook is now. ive searched all over my notifications and account settings, and i dont have any option to change it, so i believe you have to check it manually or dont check at all
