How can I become interested in school subjects?
I am interested in some of my subjects and I do very well in them but I find it very hard to pay attention in other classes and it really shows as I got a C in geography and French and I failed maths. I know they're not the worst results and I did almost pass maths and I did well in most of my other subjects (a few more CS but they were high and the rest As and Bs) but still I know I'm smart but I'm just not interested in learning out of a book and I hate being stuck behind a desk all day and much prefer to learn from learning in the real world.

I want to do well and I'm fully capable too, but I know what I want to be and I'm not interested in what I know I don't need to know. This makes studying things like maths and some parts of science (I like biology) feel extremely pointless and uninteresting!

P.S. I'm 15

You might find the Khan Academy site helpful for math study.

https://www.khanacademy.org/

Its free to set up an account. The teaching videos are short - 5-9 minutes long - and they lead into problem sets. I think a lot of the problems are constructed in a way that is very "real world" - how you would use it in real life situations. Math is used all the time! Figuring out interest rates, savings on sales, measuring time and distance, and just plain logical thinking!

You can also check out videos on Biology and Chemistry on Khan Academy, but I haven't used those so I can't say how they are as far as generating interest in the subject.

Language learning is best done with someone else who is learning or knows the language. It takes LOTS of practice. You could try to find someone to videochat with who speaks French and make weekly "dates" to get online and talk French. Otherwise, its important to have classmates that want to practice and will commit to that time together every week!

At the high school level pretty much everything taught is basic to everyone's life and applies to the real world. You just have to look around and SEE where it applies. Talk to people who *are* interested in the subject and use it in their work/life. Without a basic understanding of something like geography how would you know what is going on in the world? When the news reports come out about a typhoon, market crash, protests or other events, it helps to know where it is physically and also a little more about the people, country and their living conditions (social/political geography). We live in an ever shrinking world, where its apparent that we are all connected. So it matters - or should matter - to all of us what happens in other parts of the planet!
