With twitter, you just 'tweet' in 140 characters or less what you are up to or what's on your mind. You can add links to pictures or videos with instagram and vine

The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages.
