what are some cool iPhone apps ?

Tap Tap Revenge, Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Surviving High School, Super Rope, Run Run Chicken and they have like social networking apps like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr etc.
But you should just get apps on which games/apps that you like, they have different genre's for different apps

Check out the Nerd Code. It has heaps of cool stuff like nerdy recipes, calculators, jokes, a nerd cam and even a game that is coming soon according to the twitter page in the app. It's only 99 cents but there is a lite version too.
