Facebook timeline friends?

I was just curious to see if anyone knew about the 6 friends that pop up across the top of the timeline profile next to the photos and stuff, or the 8 friends that pop up on the timeline itself. Like how are these specific friends chosen to show up? When I go to my own profile, I have at least one guy who's ALWAYS on either one or both places. and then the others are people I communicate with, but usually not on facebook, but through texts or something. So I was just wondering if anyone has a clue as to why those particular friends are chosen to show up on profiles.

Those people in the timeline are based on the communication you have done in Facebook, tagged photos, likes and comments in both of your posts etc.
