Sit your daughter down and tell her all of the dangers, you cant stop her doing anything but shes young and anyone could take advantage of that. Make her feel comfortable so she doesn't walk off and don't shout.

As for the number hand it to the police because for all you know its a 56 year old paedophile who could be doing the same thing if not worse to other young children.

i think that it is highly advisable to go to the police as this is illegal...
However if your daughter is sending these pictures then she can also get in trouble...
Why not just point that out to her?

then theres no point involving the police, it wont go anywhere.
Unless she did send the picture, and they can track his phone and if they find the picture on his phone they can arrest him for whatever that is.

If the phone is in your name you can require the company to send you a copy of all messages sent and received. They can also pull up any pics sent or received. They do charge you a service fee for this but since they are assisting with a crime (child porn) they will cooperate. Tell your daughter that if she won't talk you will get these texts and pics and send them to all the family. The embarrassment factor should get her to be honest with you.

My daughter knows that I will do exactly this if she puts anything on-line or takes pics or vids. I'm really trying to teach her to not leave evidence around to be used against her.

That is ridiculous. The "boy/man" is probably older than her and just taking advantage. I do not think you are over reacting or anything. It is very serious as she is only 12 and should not be talking to people like that. You need to have a serious word with her about what she is doing or ask your ex wife to, as she is a girl, and so that may be less awkward for your daughter. If you think it is carrying on after the talk then I think you should give the number to the police or make your daughter text him back saying "I am 12 so stop texting me" because the "boy/man" may not realise how young she is. You don't want to find out your daughter is sending dirty picture messages also so I would say you should act on it immediately. Good luck!
