How come pop culture is more important then politics?
I am tired of the news reporting of Obama having a BBQ on the white house lawn, finding a dog for his kids, even Obama is reported for calling Kanye West's behavior a jackass. (Which is funny since MTV's target market isn't any where near Obama's age plus he is running the country watching the MTV awards at night?)

What does any of this has to do with us in a political sense. I want to know Obama's policy's not his personal status. He should just have a twitter so the news can shut it and report what really effects everyone.

Just so you know i agree completely with you why should he be campaigning for the olympics when the economy is crashing and we are at war! He is to concerned with people liking him. although if you want to here news not concentrated on that just watch Fox news

A pretty good question, but I don't know the answer.
As for Obama watching MTV. I don't remember all the details but he was getting ready to do an interview at a radio station or a tv station and the "news" was reporting that story. He and the interviewer had a brief exchange about it prior to the interview and the mic was on. Basically it was overheard.
But that lends itself to your original question about pop culture being more popular.
Why would news media at the level of interviewing the President also be "reporting" the antics of a hip-hop artist.

1. I also did not watch the MTV awards, but I knew what Kanye West did by the next morning. I am sure that he knew about it as well. All you had to do is wake up.

2. Human interest. Obama is a likable person. The polls state that very thing - people don't always agree with his policies, but they think he is a likable person. And that draws readers/viewers.

3. The news is all sorts of things - different people like different things in their news. My husband doesn't like to watch the news because it is all "doom and gloom". So I guess he is not seeing what you do.

You want the issues, you need to find your source. I find that C-Span is very informative - no commentary, no commercials, and no opinion - it is all government all the time. You have to look for it, but if you watch popular news outlets, you are going to get news for everyone.
