How to stop cutting myself off from popular things?

How to stop cutting myself off from popular things?
A bit about me. I am a 27 year old professional woman who runs her own company, works two jobs, lives out on her own, and is finishing a college degree.
Since even before the advent and popularization of Twitter, I have found saying "Eh, that's not something for me, it's too popular". I have never liked being part of something popular. Now though, I am starting to notice that I'm removing myself from EVERYTHING new and different, because the teens are into it (and I automatically think if teens are into it, it must be popular). So I'm starting to fall behind the times, and unsure as to what is Necessary to keep up with the times and what is really not. Perhaps all you wonderful readers can direct me to what is actually necessary to be into, and not what is just popular, because I can no longer tell the difference. Especially since I'm a 27 year old who doesn't feel the need to be "an in-kid" and share my work-full life with everyone (like twitter does).

Hi there

just wait until you get in your 40's

I dont "twitter" or "bebo" orf " facebook"

its something that happens as we age, I was the biggest party goeer and loved a brilliant night out in the clubs and pubs. As most will tell you as you get older you have less tolerance and understanding of the times, I would much rather now go out for a quiet dinner with a few good close friends and chat over some wine, than pub and club, I remember my parents saying " that top of the pops is a racket" I thought they were old daft sods. they were my age now.

be who you are, not what you think you should be. Enjoy what "you" like and to hell with trends.

If twitter is turning into a necessity then our society is on an extreme down turn. I'm seventeen and have never had any desire to get a twitter account so that I could let people know what I'm doing at any given moment. I find the whole entire idea of twitter pointless. If I cared what someone was doing couldn't I just you know, text them or call them or something along those lines. Facebook, myspace, twitter are not things that are necessary. They do make some things easier/more convenient. But necessary is something they should never be. If they do become necessary then you can basically assume face to face interaction amongst humans is almost dead excluding work or school.

don't worry about it. twitter is completely unnecessary and pretty damn obnoxious. so is myspace (and it's skankalicious to boot). facebook is necessary if you want new clients and to connect to old friends and stuff. it's great for people who are busy and have trouble maintaining social lives. hilarious new things are on youtube. go to lolcats and failblog for your five daily minutes of lulz (laughter).

teenagers aren't that bad. teenagers were into facebook and youtube first. they're the arbiters of technology, so don't count them out. do laugh at them for liking sparkley vampires however.

It's a little before your time but you still might have heard of it. It's a line from a CSNY song called "Almost Cut My Hair." These are David Crosby's words. Heed to them.

Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It was getting kind of long
I could have said it was in my way

But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly

It's called individuality. Never lose it. You're more special than the others.
