How can I tell my friends that I'm de-activating my account?
I've had my Facebook account with my real name for 5 years now. I usually keep my posts "custom" and don't show them to all my friends because there are some friends that I really no longer keep in touch with or have been problematic, especially recently.

I never have deleted anyone from my list but am considering de-activating my current account and creating a new one. I want to tell my friends that I want to keep in touch with on my list but how would you go about this? Would it be strange if I wrote a post and told them that I'm planning on de-activating and that I need them to approve me when I send a friend request? What would be proper in this case? I'm in my late 20's, if that helps any.

If you create a new account just start over and send requests to the people you know. They'll accept your requests if you were already friends. You don't NEED to tell them anything because no one really cares, just send them a friend request.

You don't need to explain anything. Just make a new account and add the people you want to talk to on your own.
