What do transgender people think about the "gender is a social construct" belief (pt2)?
Many people have said what feminists are really talking about are Gender roles and behavior, not Gender Identity. Here's the issue:

1) Feminists say, "Gender is a social construct". They don't say, "Gender Roles and Behavior is a social construct". They speak of Gender as a whole.

2) They really do mean that Gender Identity is also a social construct because:
a - if Gender Identity is how you feel in your mind as male or female, and is about how you express your gender, then what is this identity being based from? Feminists say, from social construction. They never say any aspect of Gender is biological.

So, what do transgender people think about this feminist belief? And, what are they doing about it? I have read many up-to-date articles on femininists who are actually against transgender people, even keep them out of female only spaces. Whats up with that? And I have read about some transgender people who are upset about these feminists. What are your specific feelings on this? Thoughts? Thanks.

That's complete bullsh-...
If it were a social construct then we wouldn't be doing this, would we? There's definitely something else at work, and it's definitely biological.

I would disagree.

There is evidence of small differences in the brain between genders that relates to gender identity. There is a specific structure burried deep in the brain that is thought to relate to gender identity. And no this is not Mars / Venus or brain wiring nonsense.

Yes TERFs (Trans exclusive radical feminists) are amonst the most biggoted transphobics on the planet. It is also pretty hyprocritcal to ask for equality for one group and not for another.

This is the kind of hate we have had to read in the papers this year from Julie Burchill / Julie Bindle of TERF city...

They are missing a big point. Trans people demonstrate how wrong gender stereo types are. We don't want people to be judged on sex or gender either. So thankfully there are plenty of feminists who realise this & are inclusive & gain support from transwomen.

What are we doing about it ? Many of us complained to the UK press watch dog about the article that link relates too. There were demonstrations made outside the news paper's offices. There were petitions made. Transmedia watch talk to both press & other media to improve presentation of trans people in the media and have contributed to the Levison Inquiry. We now have new guidelines issued from the press Watch Dog which improve the chances of any complaint made against a similar story being upheld. Many of us have added pressure in our own ways for things to change.

The thing about the word "gender" is that it has a completely different meaning depending on the context in which it's being used.

In biology, it is synonymous with "sex" - which crotch giblets an organism has.
In sociology, the word is shorthand for gender roles, which are socially constructed.
In psychology, it refers to gender identity, which is not socially constructed.

If someone tells you that gender is a social construct, they're talking about gender ROLES. The mere existence of transgender people is a testament to the fact that gender identity is deeper than that. And, as an extension of that, you'd have to be a fool to try to argue that sexual dimorphism is just a made-up thing.

As to what exactly transgender people are doing about this idea, logic would have it that they would raise their voices against it, considering that they are the living proof that refutes it.
