What to do in a small town?
Hi. I just moved to a tiny town in Minnesota and there is nothing to do. At least not that I know of. It's winter so I can't really do anything outdoors. I moved here from sunny southern cal. with my husband he grew up here so he knows everyone and everyone knows us. I don't know them. I have no friends and nothing to do. I did get a part time job but I don't like it everyone gossips about everyone and everything. Everyone knows who everyone is I hate it! The only place to shop is Walmart. I really don't have any money to start up any hobbies. So I guess my question is. What can I do before I go crazy? Oh yeah and because of all this me and my husband who I adore have been constantly fighting. Help!

There is nothing to do in those types of towns! Move out! People who live in those towns detest people who are not like them. When I lived in a small town in the US people kept giving me dirty looks and discriminating against me and my family. Your best bet is to move out and flee to a large city where there is a lot of diversity. Trust me when I say that you do not want to live in a small town.

Things you can do:

--Join a church or other community organization. The people may be stand-offish at first, but if you are friendly and active, gradually you will be accepted.

--Do volunteer work at the local school

--Convert to a full-time job

--Not every hobby requires money. You can do family genealogy on-line using free databases. You can take digital photos with the camera or smartphone that you already have. You can take on-line courses and maybe get a degree or certification in something. You can drive to the closest community college or adult ed center and take a course. You can set up a nice Facebook page and stay in touch with family and friends around the country. You can find ways to put the romance back into your marriage.

I lived in my small home town until my early 30's. Since then, I have lived in 3 cities and I hate it! I know I'm a country girl! I want to got back to a small town...When my big city friends say 'what did you do there?' I would say LOTS! Get involved in the community! You don't have to join any groups..go to some of their functions and if you believe what they are for - then join and may your new town your own! I always found that small towns had allot of activities planned because there isn't allot to do in town! You just have to find them! Check out the newspaper....sometime in the grocery store they have posters up inviting everyone to different activities. I always enjoyed the simple things....walking trails, berry picking, going to a beach and swimming....when you live in a small town you need to make your own fun and get back to basics and get in touch with who you really are! Slow down and enjoy! You'll find your way...it may take a while but you will find your way.....
