Okay, so, on Twitter I am apart of the role-play world. (Geeky, ridiculous, waste of time, I know...) And there is a character who has always talked about tracing IP addresses. I know she could do this if I was signed up on a site such as Spruz or Ning, but I am only on Twitter. However, I think this is a total invasion of privacy. Of course, then again, I do have things to hide. (I have accounts I wouldn't want people to know is me). She claims she could find out if I had other Twitter accounts and even able to see the WEBSITES i'd visited. Is this true? She isn't questioning me, she was just saying in general. How does she do this? Is there some magical list of instructions in doing so like she said? Or is it all bullshit?

She's completely and utterly full of crap and you're quite gullible.

It is bullshit. People can track your IP but they can't really do anything with it. Especially not see what websites and stuff you have been to. Be careful on the internet though, you may think that some stuff is private that is not.

Yes, your IP can be determined. There is no privacy on the net and there is no place to hide on the net if someone has either the skills, desire, or money to find you.

Your IP address can be traced but it means to find out general information's about person behind IP address. Take a look for example with IP locators from:
http://www.ipaddresslocation.org http://www.find-ip-address.org As you can see they give some general information's about you but it is still not enough that someone find out what is your name, physical address, phone etc... without court order and cooperating from your ISP. |
