Can companies see your Facebook page even if it's private?

I was talking to a friend a few days ago and she mentioned that some big companies have agreements with Facebook that allow them to see a prospective employee's Facebook profile even if it is set to "private". And I've heard quite a bit about making sure you limit the content on your Facebook page if you're in the job market for similar reasons.

Does anyone know if this is actually true?

I would caution against keeping anything on Facebook that would jeopardize your self-image, even if companies cannot see it. What's more important: an enjoyable job or a few wild photos?

I know this is kind of a lame answer, but your Facebook--if you have the right content in it--can serve to impress prospective employers as well. Use the tool wisely.

Of course. Anyone can get into anything if you have the right programs or smarts to hack. It's not that hard to break the rules if you're determined.

I'm fairly sure, that they wouldn't be able to view your profile if it's set to private. That would go against Facebook's Privacy Policy, which is to not share information displayed without permission. (I.E. If you set it to Private, people can't see it without your permission.)
But it's a good idea not to put things that are TOO private on Facebook, as you never know who you might be adding as a friend.
